If passengers do not follow the new rules, they can be removed from the plane. Or, in the worst case, be permanently banned. You may have noticed this on trains and buses.
But now the measure may be banned on airplanes – at least on United Airlines.
The American airline announces that passengers who listen to music, watch movies or enjoy other loud entertainment without headphones may be in a bad situation.
In its updated transport conditions United Airlines writes that it may refuse or even blacklist passengers who ”do not use headphones when listening to audio or video content.”.
However, the airline clarifies on its website:
”"Don't worry if you forget your headphones on the flight. If available, you can ask for free earbuds.".
The airline is the first in the US to introduce the rule, which is expected to be welcomed by passengers.
– This is in line with how the vast majority of travelers behave and want others to behave, says American travel expert Scott Keyes to the television channel CBS.
– Usually only a few people on airplanes make noise by not using headphones, so this is a smooth way to deal with them, he continues.
It remains to be seen whether more airlines will follow suit.
