As of July 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs no longer advises against travel to Denmark, Norway, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.

But there is still a great responsibility on the individual traveler, says Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) to TT.

”It's not like traveling a normal year,” she says.

The fact that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is lifting the advice does not mean that all Swedes are free to travel to the countries. In Switzerland and the Czech Republic, restrictions on travel to Sweden have been removed, so it is possible to go there. However, in Denmark and Norway, there are still restrictions in the countries for Swedes depending on the region.

”There is a great responsibility on the traveler to stay informed,” says Ann Linde.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lifted the travel advice to Norway and Denmark due to the easing of restrictions that both countries have introduced. According to Linde, it is likely that Swedes from several regions will be allowed into Norway and Denmark in the near future.

”"We see that the spread of infection in Sweden is decreasing so sharply now that if it continues, it will open up to more regions."”

”"Of course, there is a risk that there will be confusion because not all Swedes will be allowed in, which is what we would have wanted."”

Easing travel restrictions does not mean that travel can be carried out as usual, says Linde. Among other things, Swedes must continue to keep their distance and wash their hands even abroad, and there may be additional requirements in other countries, such as requirements for face masks that travelers themselves must keep track of. It is also good to be prepared that the situation can change quickly.

”"Our starting point is that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassies will not assist with transport to Sweden for those who have difficulty getting home as a consequence of Covid-19 restrictions. This can happen very quickly," says Ann Linde.
