Last year offered a record-long winter season when large amounts of natural snow arrived as early as October. Now there are indications that the booking situation in Dalarna this winter in some places looks even better for the upcoming winter season compared to the same time last year. This is shown by a survey that Visit Dalarna made among accommodation and ski facilities.
– We see the fact that Dalarna is standing strong in the fierce competition as a testament to the hard work on several fronts that goes into it, and it is completely in line with the trend reports we have seen. Dalarna is at the top in Sweden as a winter destination, says Chatarina Eriksson, CEO of Visit Dalarna.
Swedish travelers love to come to Dalarna for their winter vacation. It is snow-sure and with a wide selection, there is something for most people. Foreign visitors also continue to flock to Dalarna during the winter, and it is mainly Danes who come for the downhill skiing.
– The occupancy for the winter looks good and several high season weeks are fully booked. This year we will also be open three weeks longer than last season as Easter is later. That gives us a full five weeks between sports and Easter holidays where the weather often gives us sunshine and nice days, says Fredrik Nilsson, CEO of Fjätervålen AB.
Facilities that work actively to save snow also ensure an early season opening regardless of the weather, something that attracts the elite as it provides training opportunities. This year, the Norwegian biathlon national team, among others, has taken advantage of the early and quality-assured training opportunities at Idre Fjäll.
– In recent years, we have really seen an increase in the number of elite athletes and teams choosing to train here. We are very happy to be a place where both national teams and young talents develop, says Tommy Halvarsson, head of marketing and PR at Idre Fjäll.
Among the companies surveyed, there are reports of an increase in bookings of 10 to 20 percent compared to the same time last year.
– It is clear that the booking situation is better now than at the same time last year, which makes me very happy. It is a positive sign for the upcoming winter season, and I look forward to welcoming even more guests to our hotel, says Ida Johansson at Olarsgården in Sälen.
Several accommodation facilities report that the most expensive rooms are booked first, while self-catering cottages are popular.
– The trend of skiing is continuing. It also continues to be positive for foreign visitors to visit Sweden, especially the Danes who get a lot for their money, and at the same time it remains expensive to travel abroad based on the value of the Swedish krona, says Chatarina Eriksson.
