A negative Covid-19 test may be required to travel to the Canary Islands, local authorities say.

The popular tourist destination's board hopes to pass a law this week that will make a negative test result - issued between 48 and 72 hours before arrival - mandatory for admission to their hotel. The new law will apply to all tourists, both Spanish and foreign. If a test result cannot be presented, visitors will have to test themselves immediately upon arrival.

The Canary Islands have largely managed to avoid the new wave of coronavirus that has hit mainland Spain. There is growing concern on the islands that the situation will worsen as the winter tourist season gets underway.
