A woman died suddenly on a flight between Melbourne and Doha. The woman was then placed next to a couple – who were forced to sit next to her for several hours.
Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Collins' trip from Melbourne, Australia to Doha, Qatar took a nightmarish turn when a passenger died on the flight.
The couple tells news channel 9now that the event traumatized them.
– Unfortunately, the woman could not be saved, which was quite heartbreaking to witness, Mitchell Ring tells the channel.
Sat next to me for four hours
The woman collapsed in the aisle next to the couple. After Qatar Airways flight staff failed to revive her, they tried unsuccessfully to move her body, according to the couple.
The couple was then asked to move to make room for the woman, as they happened to be sitting in a row with two empty seats.
– They put the woman in the chair I had been sitting in, Mitchell Ring tells 9now.
The woman was covered with a blanket and stayed next to the couple for the remaining four hours of the fifteen-hour flight – and when they landed, they were forced to remain in their seats until medical staff could move the body. Mitchell Ring tells 9now he is surprised they were not allowed to leave once the plane landed.
– I can't believe they told us to stay... it wasn't nice.
In a statement about the incident, Qatar Airways apologized if the incident has caused discomfort to other passengers, and said they are in the process of contacting the travelers.
