The Expo 2020 Dubai World Expo has opened – almost a year after it was scheduled to.

The domed Al Wasl Plaza, the centerpiece of the vast exhibition area, was illuminated by spectacular projections as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum declared the lavish event open yesterday, Thursday.

– The whole world gathers in the United Arab Emirates as we inaugurate together, with the blessing of Allah, said the crown prince.

The exhibition, which was supposed to be held in October last year but was postponed due to the pandemic, is expected to attract millions of visitors from around the world.

More than 190 countries are participating in the exhibition, which cost over 61 billion kronor.

All EU countries have their own pavilions, despite the EU Parliament calling for a boycott due to the country's lack of human rights.

EU Foreign Affairs Chief Josep Borrell said at the opening that the World Expo gives the EU an opportunity to promote international cooperation and multiculturalism to address global challenges.
