The Eiffel Tower is being made terrorist-proof

The work to secure the Eiffel Tower in Paris against terrorist attacks is almost complete.

In mid-July, bulletproof glass walls and metal fences will surround France's most famous building.

The 6.5-centimeter-thick walls are not only bulletproof, but they should also withstand vehicles trying to drive through them, according to Bernard Gaudillère, head of SETE, which operates the tower.

The walls run around two sides of the Eiffel Tower. Metal fences have been erected around the other two sides.

Security work began last year. In total, the security measures around the Eiffel Tower will cost nearly 35 million euros, just over 350 million Swedish kronor.
