The volcanic eruption in Iceland appears to be over, the Icelandic Meteorological Authority (IMO) announced.

Two cracks appeared in a volcano north of Grindavík, Iceland, this weekend. All residents of the town had already been evacuated after nearly 200 earthquakes were recorded a few hours earlier.

Most indications are now that the eruption is over, the IMO says. However, the area around the volcano is still dangerous, according to the authority:

”"There is still a high risk of ground collapse into cracks in the city.".
