Panic erupted on a Ryanair flight when a window was shattered and a man was sucked out of the plane. 

Now new information is coming out about what may have caused the drama.

"My husband fainted three times," a witness told the Greek TV channel. Mega.

The Ryanair plane that took off from Thessaloniki, Greece, on Friday morning was en route to Germany when chaos suddenly broke out on board, reports CNN Greece.

When the plane was about 5,000 meters in the air, there was a bang and a window shattered. The 61-year-old Serbian man sitting next to the shattered window was sucked out of the window – but was saved by the fact that he was wearing his seat belt.

His wife tells the Greek television channel Mega about the terrifying moment when her husband sucked halfway out the window. 

”Half the body was torn out”

– In a second it broke. While we were flying, the glass broke and half of the body was torn out due to the pressure. Everything was flying around. 

The wife says they had been in the air for about 30-40 minutes when the window broke. Together with the other two, she fought with all she could for several minutes to keep her husband inside the plane. 

– There were three of us who pulled him into the plane. Everyone was crying, there was panic. My husband fainted three times.

The plane made an emergency landing at Thessaloniki airport after the incident. The man was taken to hospital and is said to have escaped serious injuries with only cuts to his head.

According to the TV channel, the window was shattered due to an engine failure. A fragment reportedly broke loose and hit the window. The Wall Street Journal writes that a video taken after the plane made an emergency landing shows how the plane is missing a fan blade in the engine and that there was also a hole in the engine cowling.
