On Thursday, the first charter flight of the season landed from Frankfurt with nearly 130 eager travelers, mainly from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. They were met by representatives from Jönköping Airport, Smålands Turism, local media – and sunshine!
For the 19th year and in connection with the 17th arrival, a traditional party was held to welcome the first travelers to Jönköping. As in recent years, the local folk music ensemble was also present. High ceilings with and raised the mood.
– This is very important, because this is a unique product that we have. There is no other Swedish airport that has incoming charter flights in the summer. So this is really something we are proud of and that we can develop further, says Henrik Älverdal, Commercial Manager for Jönköping Airport.
The flights are operated by Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines and its Airbus 320. This summer, five additional charter flights will land at Jönköping Airport, transporting a total of nearly 750 passengers. Smålands Turism expects that approximately 5,000 guest nights will end up in Jönköping County during the summer season, thanks to these charter flights.
– Economically, the incoming charter flights have a large impact on the tourism industry. According to previous studies, it is about two to three thousand kronor per guest night, which ultimately gives 10-15 million kronor in tourism industry impact, just in Jönköping County, Henrik continues.
According to Smålands Turism, the vast majority of travelers have never visited Sweden before and would not have come here otherwise, if it weren't for the charter flights.
Jönköping Airport is already looking forward to next Thursday and the next arrival – Welcome to Småland and Jönköping!
