Göta Canal opens for the season with a salute, coffee and new experiences. The opening in Norsholm guest harbor on May 6 marks the start of a full canal summer.
The summer season at Göta Canal will begin with a festive ceremony in Norsholm on May 6. The official opening ceremony includes traditional speeches, a nice coffee break and a grand salute when the first boats pass the lock. The event is open to the public, and marks the start of a season full of new experiences and improvements for all visitors to the canal.
– We have really geared up for this year's season, says Roger Altsäter, CEO of AB Göta kanalbolag. With new packages, more family activities and a summer program with some of Sweden's biggest artists, we look forward to welcoming both new and returning guests to the channel.
Among this year's news are:
1. Extended vacation packages:
Göta Canal offers a wider range of holiday packages, adapted to different travel lengths and interests. Choose between relaxing day trips on the canal, exciting cycling adventures or your own boat trips. There are also camping sites, hotels, guesthouses and cottages along the canal, which can be easily pre-booked via the booking page.
2. More cycling packages and cycling experiences:
After being named Europe's best cycle route earlier this year, Göta Canal is continuing its efforts with expanded bike rental, convenient boat transport for cyclists and the option to combine cycling with a rental car. Everything can be pre-booked online.
3. Greater focus on family-friendly activities:
Children's favorite mascot Grynet appears at several family events, starting with Family Day in Bergs slussar on May 29. More child-friendly packages and accommodations make Göta Canal a perfect destination for the whole family.
4. Packed artist program:
Summer offers concerts along Göta Canal's summer stages, with artists such as Victor Leksell, Miriam Bryant, Lisa Nilsson, Bo Kaspers Orchestra and Molly Hammar - and more are coming.
The 2025 season looks to be something very special. Welcome to celebrate it with us at Norsholm guest harbor on May 6th!
