In the budget bill for 2024, the government chooses not to even index the allocation to Visit Sweden and also abolishes the tourism policy goal. Swedish Tourism believes that this shows that the government does not see the importance of tourism for jobs and growth.
– Tourism has an annual turnover of over one hundred billion kronor, employs hundreds of thousands of people and creates attractive places throughout the country. Despite this, the government chooses not to even index the allocation to Visit Sweden and also to abolish the tourism policy goal, says Jonas Siljhammar, chairman of Swedish Tourism.
– Visit Sweden's base allocation has been unchanged since 2018 and the tourism policy goal has played a major role in the possibilities for a coherent policy for tourism. Swedish Tourism is very disappointed that the government is abolishing the goal and that Visit Sweden is expected to perform the same tasks with reduced funds in practice, concludes Jonas Siljhammar.
