The government will look more closely at the possibilities of creating a high-speed train connection between Stockholm and Oslo, writes Infrastructure Minister Tomas Eneroth (S) on Twitter, reports SVT Varmland.

Eneroth, he has had talks with his Norwegian ministerial colleague Knut Arild Hareide about the high-speed train connection between the cities and that they agreed to start work on looking at how this could be realized.

”"It feels fantastic that we are now going from a good idea to looking at how it could be realized," says Jonas Andersson, CEO of Oslo-Stockholm 2.55, the publicly owned company that is driving the issue of a high-speed train connection between the capitals, to SVT.

A journey between Stockholm and Oslo currently take just over five hours. For the high-speed train plans to become a reality, the train route must be changed on certain parts of the existing railway and modernized.

According to Jonas Andersson, however, yesterday's announcement represents a giant step forward and he believes that it will be possible to travel between Stockholm and Oslo in less than three hours in the early 2030s.
