The heat wave here at home is affecting the prices of last-minute trips, and anyone looking for a quick getaway to the Mediterranean has a good chance of finding it now.

Some might wonder who really needs the beach by the Mediterranean when you can soak up the sun right here at home right now.

In our neighboring country Denmark, tickets to otherwise popular destinations are now being sold for half price. This applies to favorite Scandinavian destinations such as the Greek archipelago, Turkey and Italy.

”"It's not the best weather for the charter industry. If I said that, I would be lying," says Stig Elling at the charter company Bravo Tours to the Danish news agency Ritzau.

The same applies in Sweden. Many charter travelers in search of sun have indeed booked their trips for several months. But among last-minute bookers, interest seems to be somewhat lukewarm right now.

And of course the warm May weather plays a certain role, admits Clara Larsson, who is the press officer at the charter company Apollo.

”"Our prices to the Mediterranean have dropped by 25 percent in May compared to last year," she tells TT and continues:

”"There are plenty of last-minute trips at great prices right now, but that can change very quickly due to weather.".

Adelina Dankova at the charter company Tui's press office also talks about pressured prices.

”"Right now, the price is being affected by the warm weather until midsummer. After midsummer, the price situation looks to be back to the levels we had last summer," she says.
