Intercontinental Hotels, which operates the Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Regent hotel brands and has over 5,900 hotels worldwide, currently has an occupancy rate of just over 20 percent.

This is reported by Reuters, after Intercontinental Hotels announced that the company had taken out a loan of 600 million pounds from the British government's emergency package as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

For the first quarter, the company expects a 25 percent decline in revenue per available room globally. About half of the company's hotels in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa are currently closed, while the development in China has improved with only 12 of the 470 hotels in the country closed. In the United States, where about half of Intercontinental's hotels are located, about 10 percent are closed.
