Anyone who misses their flight due to the long queues at Arlanda should be compensated by Swedavia, the state-owned company that runs the airport, writes Didrik von Seth, secretary general of the Swedish Travel Industry Association (SRF) on SvD Debatt.
”"Because this very extraordinary situation has had such serious consequences for so many passengers, we believe that Swedavia should, as a goodwill gesture, immediately compensate for the additional costs travelers have incurred due to missed flights," he writes.
He believes that Swedavia is to blame for the queues, due to slow recruitment of airport staff, and calls the result a "fiasco".
”In the longer term, consumer legislation should be changed so that airport operators also have similar obligations as airlines and tour operators,” writes Didrik von Seth.
It is unclear how many have actually missed their flights. According to a rough estimate, 3,000–5,000 travelers are currently missing their flights at Arlanda on a monthly basis, writes von Seth.
