The Mexican military has taken over the operation of the capital Mexico City's international airport, writes TT.

The aim is to put a stop to drug smuggling, illegal migration and corruption.

A year ago, the navy was tasked with handling security. Soon, it will also be responsible for everything from passport and customs checks to baggage handling and traffic management, writes TT.

According to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the military will operate about ten airports in the country by 2024.
