Vy is canceling night trains between Boden and Stockholm on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The reason is that really low temperatures are expected.
– The forecast is that it will be around -35 degrees on most of the route. When it gets that cold, the trains will be iced over and not functional. If it is also a long route, there is a risk that the toilets will freeze to pieces, says Roger Norman, traffic manager at Vy.
“The infrastructure also becomes more sensitive when it gets cold. If a catenary breaks, an evacuation can be several hours away, so it's for safety reasons above all,” Norman continues.
Trains are expected to run as usual again on Sunday when milder weather is expected.
