New figures show which country attracts Norwegians the most.
- Norwegians have a genuine craving for Sweden, says consumer economist Magne Gundersen to Daily Newspaper.
A new survey conducted by Respons Analyse shows that Sweden is the most popular travel destination for Norwegians wanting to travel abroad.
– Many might think Spain or other southern countries are at the top of the list, but that's not true. Norwegians have a genuine craving for Sweden, says consumer economist Magne Gundersen.
According to figures from Statistics Sweden, Sweden has topped the list for Norwegians' foreign travel for the past three years, followed by Spain, Denmark, Great Britain, and Germany.
"It's simply a matter of where most Norwegians have holiday homes outside of Norway. At the same time, many also travel through Sweden to, for example, Denmark and Germany," says Gundersen.
”Get more for your money”
He also mentions another reason why Sweden is ”a clear favourite” for Norwegians and ”tempts them more than the rest”, according to Dagbladet:
– Now that the Norwegian krone is stronger than the Swedish one, you also get more for your money. Food has become cheaper. Most things are cheaper.
He says that ”people are a bit nervous about flying” on holiday because ”there has been a lot of talk about cancelled flights and high prices for aviation fuel”:
Remember that you can travel to Sweden and Denmark without flying.
Twelve percent say the world situation is preventing them from travelling abroad, an increase from four percent last year.
"– That's quite a lot, and it shows that people value their own safety highly. During the holidays, you don't want any problems," says Gundersen.
