Never before have so many vehicles passed over the Øresund Bridge in one day, one weekend, one week and one month as in July 2023.
The traffic records for 24 hours, weekends and weeks were broken for the first time during week 28. But it only lasted a week before new records were recorded.
And during the last week of July, the weekend and weekday records were broken for the third time. With a total of 923,496 passages in July, it was also the best monthly record since the bridge opened in 2000. This broke the previous monthly record from July 2019 with a total of 65,921 passages.
– Traffic is breaking records all the time and it is fantastic to see everyone enjoying everything that the Öresund region has to offer. Despite the intense travel, traffic flows smoothly through the toll station without long waiting times, says Linus Eriksson, CEO of the Øresund Bridge.
Every day in July, Danish leisure customers made an average of 5,800 journeys with the ØresundGO discount agreement. Among Swedish leisure customers, an average of 4,660 journeys were made.
– Sweden's weak krona probably contributes to incredibly strong traffic among Danes. But a general upswing in car holidays and experiences in the local area is also believed to contribute to increased interest in both sides of the bridge. Swedish leisure traffic is less affected by the currency difference during holiday periods, says Linus Eriksson.
