The police's new passport booking system is down.
When lots of people tried to book appointments to renew their passports at the same time, the system gave up.
”"It has completely collapsed here, but we are working on it," says Jan Schütt at the police regional office in Gothenburg to SVT Nyheter Väst.
This spring's transition from a drop-in system to booking appointments for passport applications online has been problematic. The booked appointments quickly ran out and at the police stations where the drop-in system was still in place for a while, the queues have sometimes been several hours long.
Today, new times were released that were available for booking. However, shortly after nine o'clock when the new times were supposed to be available in the booking system, the website could not be reached.
”"Next time I think we might not state an exact time when new shift times are available, so we avoid the problem of everyone going in at the same time," says Jan Schütt.
Police believe the problem will be resolved this afternoon.
