The romantic Via dell'Amore hiking trail between the villages on the postcard-perfect Cinque Terre coastline in northwestern Italy will open this weekend after being closed for several years, reports the BBC.
The trail has been closed since 2012 when a landslide occurred, which was a clear signal to authorities that the area was in urgent need of renovation.
Four Australian tourists were injured in the landslide, which, according to the Australian news site News.com.au, was caused by drought.
Every year, hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions, of tourists make a pilgrimage to the coastal stretch.
Cinque Terre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and mass tourism is taking a toll on the area and its year-round residents.
