Statistics from Statistics Sweden and the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth show that the number of guest nights was around 15.7 million, an increase of around 1 percent and a new record.

Over a ten-year period, the number of guest nights has increased by a total of 2 million.

-The industry continues to show strength and stability with another year of growth, states Peter Jansson, acting CEO of SCR Svensk Camping.

Camping accommodation maintains its position as Sweden's largest holiday accommodation during the summer season June-August with 43 percent of all guest nights. In 9 Swedish counties, more than 50 percent of summer accommodation is at a campsite.

In the priority foreign markets of Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Germany, the industry is increasing its market share among commercial accommodation by 3 percentage points to 53 percent of guest nights. After Swedes, Norwegian guests spend the most nights at Swedish campsites. In total, 70 percent of all Norwegian guests during the summer season from June to August chose to stay at a campsite during their visit to Sweden.

– The camping industry is an important driver for Holiday Sweden. Our vision is for Sweden to become Europe's best camping country and it is particularly inspiring when the proportion of international overnight stays increases. We are now aiming to exceed 16 million guest nights in 2018, says Peter Jansson, acting CEO of SCR Svensk Camping.

Motorhome accommodation continues to increase and now amounts to 11 percent of total accommodation. In 2017, motorhome pitches also became a new membership category in the industry organization SCR Svensk Camping.
