The price of air travel globally has risen twice as much as inflation in the United States.

This is reported by TT and refers to the Financial Times.

The newspaper has seen a survey from aviation analytics company Cirius that shows that the average price of over 600 of the world's most popular flight routes rose by 27.4 percent year-on-year in February (the latest available data). At that time, flight prices had risen by double digits for fifteen consecutive months, according to the FT.

Prices are also higher than before the pandemic. For example, the price of flights from Heathrow in London to Newark in New York has increased by 23 percent compared to 2019.

High demand combined with various lags from the pandemic are among the reasons behind the price surge.
