The Confederation of Finnish Enterprises (EK) wants a fixed connection between Turku and Stockholm via Åland.

“It is an unimaginably large project that has not been investigated at all. That is why we are proposing an investigation as part of the strategy,” says CEO Jyri Häkämies. to Yle.

The 170-kilometer stretch is proposed to be built with a combination of tunnels and railway bridges.

EK wants the government to start investigating as soon as possible.

The proposal comes at a time when Finnish trade with Russia has ”collapsed.” Uncertain times are also seen as threatening trade to the west, Yle reports.

EK has not calculated the costs, but believes that the proposal is realistic.

- The bridge between Sweden and Denmark was also a radical proposal at the beginning, but now you can only see positive effects, says Jyri Häkämies.
