The number of passengers at state airport operator Swedavia's airports amounted to just over 1.7 million during November, which for the first time corresponds to almost 60 percent of the number of travelers in a single month since the start of the pandemic. This is according to a press release.
At the same time, Swedavia warns that omicron and new restrictions are creating renewed uncertainty about developments in the near future.
”"The recovery for aviation continued in November and the number of travelers during the month reached the highest level since the start of the pandemic. Easing of restrictions and the digital travel document facilitate people's mobility, as does an increased range of destinations and routes. However, the pandemic is not over and the spread of the new mutation omicron is worrying. Much is still unclear regarding the characteristics of the variant and the effectiveness of the current vaccine. New travel restrictions may therefore affect people's ability to travel, at least for the foreseeable future," says Swedavia's CEO Jonas Abrahamsson.
Of the number of passengers in November, almost 1.13 million were international travelers and 605,000 were domestic travelers.
At Arlanda in Stockholm, air travel decreased by 41 percent in November compared to 2019, while Gothenburg Landvetter Airport was down 45 percent.
