Top (travel) genres 2025: beach, sun and big city
It's not hard to put into words the Swedes' travel tastes. This year's most searched destination was Bangkok, followed by Malaga and London. The top list shows a clear attraction towards sun, big city vibes and familiar favorites – from long trips to Asia to Southern European beaches and Europe's big cities.

Breakthrough of the year
Looking at the travel destinations that trended the most in 2025, there is, among others, the upstart Tarsus in Turkey, where flight searches increased by 186 percent compared to the previous year. Destinations such as Zakynthos in Greece, Kaunas in Lithuania and Udon Thani in Thailand also climbed in search interest among Swedes.

This year's travel highlights
During the year, there were certain dates that stood out in Swedes' travel searches. The most sought-after travel days were during Christmas: December 20, December 19 and December 25, which may be due to the favorable location of Christmas. Travel demand generally peaked during the Christmas weeks and the height of summer – weeks 51, 52 and 27.

– When we look back at how Swedes wanted to travel this year, we see a clear pattern: the favorites remain the same, but curiosity is growing. Travel tastes in 2025 have been consistent, with Bangkok continuing to dominate, but at the same time, the trending destinations point to a desire to discover more than the obvious choices. The rise of destinations such as Udon Thani, Tarsus and Kaunas indicates that Swedes are increasingly looking for new experiences, more value for money and trips that feel more unique, says Lisbet Due Berg, press officer at momondo.

– We also see how Swedes seem to have become increasingly adept at planning their vacation days and getting the most out of their time off. The Christmas period stands out as the big travel peak of the year, where many want to travel smart – whether it's for time with family or to discover the world on their own.

They were compared to searches made between 1 December 2023 and 10 December 2024 for travel between 1 January and 31 December 2024. All prices are average prices for return economy tickets.
