The high temperatures have made the risk of fire extremely high. To prevent sparks and fire, the Swedish Transport Administration is urging railway companies to adapt their operations.

It is not primarily the speed of the trains that risks creating sparks that can start a fire in the terrain. It is the heavy braking. And right now the risk of fires is extremely high according to the information that the Swedish Transport Administration receives from SMHI.

– The adapted driving means that the train driver drives a little slower so that the braking is smoother and therefore safer. In this way, we can reduce the risk of fire, says Anneli Markström, emergency officer at the Swedish Transport Administration.
