The train companies have made nearly 300,000 demands on the Swedish Transport Administration after all the train delays last year, reports Sweden's radio Ekot.
After new rules were introduced this summer, train companies now have the opportunity to demand compensation from the Swedish Transport Administration for delays caused by infrastructure faults.
In total, the claims amount to SEK 108 million.
”"We knew that there would be many applications, but we didn't know how many. Now we have something to start from and work on," says Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration, to Ekot.
The rules were introduced last summer as part of a plan to reduce delays by making the party causing the delay financially responsible. Last year was a bad year for train delays. 12 percent of all passenger trains were delayed. A third of these were caused by things like signal failures, faults in overhead lines, tracks and switches.
