More overnight stays and an increased proportion of foreign visitors. This despite high inflation, rising interest rates and a summer that rained away. Now Visit Dalarna can present fresh figures on how the tourism industry in Dalarna fared throughout last year.
– Dalarna is the number one winter destination in Sweden, and the Danes have further strengthened their presence, says Chatarina Eriksson, CEO of Visit Dalarna.
It is in the hospitality industry that growth and employment are created. Drive and entrepreneurship in small and large companies are two of the most important factors that have brought Dalarna to a strong position nationally. Both Swedish and international guests choose to travel to Dalarna, which is the fourth largest visitor region in the country.
– We can see in the statistics that turnover has decreased, despite a greater number of overnight stays. This is largely due to lower fuel prices, but to some extent also to the fact that visitors held tighter to their wallets during the holidays and that the use of their own holiday homes increased, says Chatarina Eriksson.
Turnover is also the basis for the calculation model for employment, and it is about man-years, so a seasonal employee cannot be counted as a full man-year. In other words, there are significantly more people who are active in the hospitality industry.
– The statistics give an indication of how the tourism industry in Dalarna is doing, and we can't help but be pleased that the efforts we are making internationally seem to be yielding results. We need the foreign visitors so that companies can have better conditions for sustainable operations all year round, says Chatarina Eriksson.
