Ahead of Shrimp Sandwich Day on October 14, 2024, Swedavia and Stockholm Arlanda Airport have established a prize for the airport's best-selling shrimp sandwich so far this year, and the clear winner is at the artisan bakery Gateau.

With 120 grams of hand-peeled, MSC-labeled shrimp on a specially baked Danish rye bread, Gateau's shrimp sandwich is Arlanda's best-selling during the period January to September 2024. During a ceremony at the Market Square in Terminal 5, Alan Salih, Unit Manager at Gateau, received flowers and the official title of holder of Arlanda's best-selling shrimp sandwich 2024.
− For us, the overall experience of the shrimp sandwich is the most important thing. There should be just the right amount of shrimp, mayonnaise and salad. Then of course the bread is very central. We think our Danish rye bread Odense, which is the base for the shrimp sandwich, has the perfect mix of sweetness and juiciness, and the sunflower seeds and seeds take it to an extra level, says Alan Salih. Shrimp Sandwich Day on October 14 is a theme day that was established by Stockholm Arlanda Airport in 2010 because Arlanda, together with its sister airport Landvetter, sells several thousand shrimp sandwiches a week. During the period January to September 2024, just over 48,000 shrimp sandwiches were sold at the airport at a price of SEK 99 to SEK 395. − The shrimp sandwich is a popular product that is strongly associated with travel and the airport. Here at Arlanda there is a shrimp sandwich for all tastes in all price ranges and our wide range includes everything from grab n go sandwiches for a hundred kroner to slightly more luxurious variants with Kalixlöj roe that are served sitting at the table. Regardless of what travelers prefer or what their wallet allows, we always strive for good quality with a high perceived value for money, says Charlotte Ljunggren, Director of Marketing and Commercial Development at Swedavia.
Facts Over 17 million travelers passed through Arlanda during the period January to September 2024. During the same period, 48,256 shrimp sandwiches were sold at the airport. Arlanda's best-selling shrimp sandwich in 2024 is available at Gateau in Terminal 2, Terminal 5 and SkyCity at a price of 189 Swedish kronor. The airport's second best-selling shrimp sandwich is served at the table at Nordic Kitchen & Bar on the Market Square in Terminal 5 and is a slightly more luxurious variant (295 Swedish kronor) with 200 grams of hand-peeled, MSC-labeled shrimp on Danish rye bread.
