Spain, Finland and Italy are the most popular travel destinations abroad during Easter and the Easter break in 2024, according to a survey conducted by Kantar Media on behalf of Europeiska ERV. However, the vast majority stay at home or travel within Sweden.

It's not long before many Swedes get their Easter break. This year, more Swedes are traveling during the Easter break than during the sports break. This is shown by a survey that Kantar Media has conducted on behalf of Europeiska ERV. In it, 27% of Swedes say that they are planning a trip during the Easter break, while 20% traveled during the sports break. But not everyone has decided yet. A full 7% are thinking about whether they should travel, or where they plan to travel.

Spain most popular during Easter

For Swedes traveling abroad, Spain is the most popular destination. Finland comes in second place and Italy in third. These destinations are closely followed by Norway, Germany and France.

  • The length of the Easter weekend makes it a good fit for some to take a long weekend in one of the European cities, a ski trip in the Alps or a trip to their own holiday home or apartment. These may be some of the reasons why Swedes have chosen Spain, Italy, Germany and France for their Easter holiday, says Andreas Sandin, Nordic CSO & Managing Director Sweden at Europeiska ERV.

Here we travel:

  1. Spain
  2. Finland
  3. Italy
  4. Norway
  5. Germany
  6. France
  7. UK
  8. Denmark
  9. United States of America
  10. Thailand

Most people travel within Sweden

For the majority of Swedes who travel, it will be within the country's borders. 18 % travel in Sweden during the Easter holidays. This is not surprising since Easter comes early and the ski season is still underway. Many open up their holiday homes for the summer season or take the opportunity to visit family and friends.

  • Easter is a traditional holiday that Swedes like to celebrate with family and friends. People gather for Easter dinner and other fun activities, which may be the reason why many people stay home or take Easter vacation within the country, Andreas Sandin continues.

About the survey

The survey was conducted in the Kantar Media web panel (Sifopanelen) during the period January 19–24, 2024. A total of 1,328 people aged 18–79 were interviewed.

The web panel is nationally representative and recruited based on random selection. There is no self-recruitment in Kantar Media's web panel (Sifopanelen).

According to the press release.
