The Covid certificates will be made available to all vaccinated Swedes on July 1 and will be free of charge. Those who have not been vaccinated but want to certify that they have been infected or show a negative Covid test may have to wait until mid-August – and that passport can be expensive.
On July 1, the so-called covisa certificates will be launched across the EU. They will facilitate travel by certifying that the traveler has either been vaccinated against covid-19, recovered from the disease, or recently tested negative.
Starting July 1, all Swedes who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 will be able to request proof.
– The Covid certificates will be free of charge for everyone, announced Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) at Wednesday's press conference.
Even those who have only had one dose will be able to access the proof. However, it is up to each individual EU country to decide whether full vaccination should be a requirement for entry.
EU Minister: Does not advise against travel
EU Minister Hans Dahlgen (S) explains that all member states have agreed on common recommendations that mean that everyone who has a valid Covid certificate should avoid, for example, testing at national borders and quarantine upon entry.
– The government does not currently advise against travel to countries within the EU, said the EU Minister during the press conference.
However, he points out that it is the individual's own responsibility to keep track of what applies in the particular country the trip is to and gives tips on The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' app is ready for travel.
Digitally and on paper
The certificate will be available to order digitally via the e-health authority, which will launch the website www.covidbevis.se. In connection with this, you can give consent for information to be retrieved from the national vaccination register.
The website opens on July 1 and you log in with your e-ID. The proof can then be sent either to a digital mailbox, downloaded as a PDF, or sent in paper form to your population registration address, according to Minister of Energy and Digitalization Anders Ygeman (S).
By August 12th, it should be possible to have proof of a negative test result from the last 48 to 72 hours delivered to you in the same way. These tests will be carried out by private operators and you must pay for them yourself. A PCR test can cost between 500-2000 SEK.
If you are neither vaccinated nor have a recent negative Covid test, you can obtain a certificate of recovery – a positive test result that is more than ten days old. These should also be available via the website by August 12th.
