Thousands of people gathered at the tourist beach Bondi Beach in Sydney on Friday morning, local time, to honour the victims of Sunday's fatal shooting, Australian ABC reports.

Prime Minister Albanese also announced a nationwide gun buy-back programme.

Surfers and swimmers took to the water at Bondi Beach, and a minute's silence was observed.

15 people were shot dead when two men opened fire at a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach on Sunday.

Australia's Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has stated that Sunday, a week after the incident, has been declared a day of reflection to honour the victims. He is calling on people to observe a minute's silence.

– We urge people around Australia to light a candle at 6:47 PM – exactly one week since the attack occurred.
