Ten people on a cruise ship bound for New Orleans in the US have tested positive for Covid-19. The infected are both staff and passengers and now thousands of people will be tested before they disembark, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The Norwegian Cruise Line ship departed New Orleans on November 28 and has made stops in Honduras and Mexico.

”There are over 3,200 individuals on board,” the US Department of Health and Human Services wrote on Twitter.

Those who test positive should either travel home in their own vehicle or isolate themselves according to current recommendations in accommodations provided by the shipping company.

The global cruise industry has been hit hard by the pandemic. In early February 2020, when little was known about the coronavirus, the Diamond Princess was quarantined after more than 700 people on board tested positive. Thirteen people died and cruises were suspended in the United States for over a year to reduce the spread of the virus.
