A plane from the airline Norwegan en route to Nice has received a bomb threat and was forced to turn back to Arlanda.

The passengers were allowed to remain on the plane for two hours before they were allowed to disembark in groups shortly before 1 p.m. The police are now investigating the information and bomb technicians have been sent to Arlanda. 169 people were on board.

– Everyone on board has now left the plane. National bomb technicians will shortly begin an investigation of the plane. At this time, the incident is classified as a serious unlawful threat, says Eva Nilsson, press spokesperson for the Stockholm Police.

The alarm came in just after half past ten and according to the airline Norwegian, the passengers will receive assistance.

– We are now trying to take care of the passengers so they can get to their destination, Charlotte Holmberg Jacobsson, head of communications at the airline Norwegian.

The Swedish Maritime Rescue Service, which has led the operation, confirms to P4 Stockholm that the plane turned around and was able to land at Arlanda at 11.15.

11 of those on board are swimmers and training leaders from the Swedish Swimming Association.

– They have left the plane and are still at Arlanda, says Mikael Jansson, head of the Swedish Swimming Association.

Police and rescue services have taken over the operation on the ground.

The police say they have received a warning alert and are working to find out more about information that an airline has received a threat.
