Schools are closing and travel is restricted as Belgian unions call for a three-day general strike starting on Monday.

The strike has been called by the largest Belgian unions, who oppose the government's proposals for cuts and changes to labor law.

According to the plan, the strike will be carried out in three phases. On Monday, major impacts are expected on trains and public transport, on Tuesday schools, kindergartens and hospitals will join in, and on Wednesday a full general strike has been called. At that time, no flights are expected at all at the country's largest airports, Brussels-Zaventem and Charleroi.

The country's government announced on Monday morning that an agreement has been reached on next year's budget. The goal is to reduce the country's national debt, which is one of the largest in Europe along with Greece, Italy and France.
