The number of flights via Swedavia's airports remains well below pre-pandemic levels. For Swedish domestic flights, 2024 meant another sharp decline.

A total of just over 32 million passengers travelled through state-owned Swedavia's ten airports last year. This is 1 percent higher than in 2023, but at the same time the figures can be compared to what it was like before the corona pandemic broke out in early 2020, when the aviation industry was hit by a fatal blow. The number of trips is only 81 percent compared to the level before the pandemic. 

There are also different developments when it comes to domestic and international travel. While international travel increased by 5 percent, domestic travel decreased by 9 percent.

”"The year ended strongly and the number of passengers at our ten airports increased by 4 percent in December compared to December 2023. Demand for international travel has continued to grow and the decline in domestic travel slowed in the second half of the month," says CEO Jonas Abrahamsson in a press release.

Among the airports with the largest decline in domestic travel is Landvetter in Gothenburg, where the decline is 10 percent compared to 2023. For Arlanda, the decline was 4 percent.
