Up until midsummer, the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce estimates that SEK 36 billion in foreign tourism consumption in Sweden could be lost as a result of the corona crisis.

”"One of Sweden's largest export industries is in a total wilderness that is impossible to predict the length of, and with each passing day the situation becomes increasingly difficult," says Stefan Westerberg, senior economist at the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, in a press release.

According to the Chamber of Commerce, so-called tourism exports account for nearly half of total consumption in the hospitality industry. But since the coronavirus outbreak at the beginning of the year, global travel has essentially stopped.

The daily loss is estimated at 254 million in March, 282 million in April, 365 million in May and a full 612 million in June. Stockholm County is estimated to lose 13.1 billion during the period from mid-March until midsummer, the Västra Götaland region 6.6 billion and Skåne 3.7 billion.

The Stockholm Chamber of Commerce believes that the measures that the government and parliament have decided so far are not enough. 

”"Greater preparedness is needed in the form of a cost framework of SEK 400 billion that is specifically dedicated to supporting companies and jobs with some form of liquidity support," says Stefan Westerberg.
