A 57-year-old woman from Germany has been bitten by a shark near the tourist paradise of Phuket in Thailand, reports Picture.

The attack took place on Friday while the woman was swimming at the beach in Phang Nga. The woman was bitten on the leg and suffered a wound about 30 centimeters long.

Witnesses on the beach helped the woman out of the sea, covered in blood and screaming in pain, Bild reports. She was then taken to hospital for emergency surgery.

Following the attack, local authorities have put up warning signs on the beach to inform about potentially dangerous marine animals.
