Popular tourist islands like Mallorca and Ibiza are stepping up the fight against the number of rental cars, reports Swiss Look.

A cap is now being introduced on Ibiza: between June and September, a total of 14,000 rental cars will be allowed on the island – a 12 percent reduction compared to last year. The aim is to reduce traffic and make tourism more sustainable.

Mallorca has chosen a different path and instead restricts where foreign cars are allowed to drive, including through special environmental zones.

Blick has been in contact with several landlords who expect the measures to lead to higher prices.

”"Especially with requests for larger vehicle categories, and with last-minute bookings, it may not always be possible to offer a vehicle," Sunny Cars said in a statement to the newspaper.
