Tourists stuck on Icelandic glacier

A group of tourists on a snowmobile trip got stuck in a severe snowstorm on the Icelandic glacier Langjökull on Monday.

Police are now investigating whether the tour operator was guilty of a crime, Icelandic media reports.

A major rescue operation was launched, involving around 300 people and 57 vehicles in the cold and poor visibility. The tourists had taken refuge in two larger vehicles and were cold and wet when they were found.

Icelandic authorities had issued a weather warning for the entire island earlier on Monday and advised against travel to the Icelandic highlands.
