Take electric planes to your job meeting? Japanese automaker Toyota is trying to find new ways to adapt to a rapidly changing industry. The car giant is now investing $400 million, equivalent to around SEK 3.8 billion, in the company Joby Aviation, which is developing flying electric cars for commercial traffic.

Joby Aviation, founded in 2009, is developing an electric aircraft that seats four passengers and takes off and lands vertically, like a helicopter, with the idea of developing it for commercial use rather than selling the vehicles to private individuals.

The company also has a partnership with Uber to develop a flying taxi service.

Toyota has previously invested in a project to develop what is intended to be the world's smallest flying car.
