Around 250 train departures in Norway are being cancelled this weekend after 46 train drivers went on strike. The conflict also affects cross-border train traffic between Gothenburg and Oslo.

The strike began on Friday morning after negotiations between the Norwegian Locomotive Drivers' Union, NLF, and the train company Vy broke down.

A total of 46 train drivers have gone on strike, leading to around 250 cancelled departures over the weekend.

Among the lines affected is the train connection between Gothenburg and Oslo.

Conflict over pay and working hours

The background is, among other things, disagreements about salaries and train drivers' working hours.

NLF demands greater predictability in scheduling and equal pay for train drivers who perform the same work after the merger between Vy and Flytoget.

– We demand that train drivers who perform the same work receive the same pay. It is a bad pay policy, a bad personnel policy and a bad railway policy, says NLF union leader Rolf Ringdal.

The employers' organization Spekter, for its part, believes that the demands on train drivers are too high.

It is not clear from the data how many of the 250 cancelled departures concern traffic between Gothenburg and Oslo.
