Travellink's booking statistics* show that Sweden will receive an increased number of tourists this summer, especially from Germany, France, the UK and Spain. The Swedish cities, the beaches around Visby and the forests of Norrland are expected to be filled with visitors again, indicating a positive trend for tourism in the country.
Foreign tourists choosing to holiday in Sweden have picked up again and are now at the same levels as in the summer of 2019 – before the pandemic. Above all, it is Germans (26%), French (17%), English (9%) and Spanish (9%) who choose to travel north. But Austrians, Swiss, Italians and Dutch are also high on the list of foreign visitors to Sweden this summer.
The vast majority choose to travel to Stockholm (77%), followed by Gothenburg (18%). Then it is the holiday paradise Visby and the northern towns of Luleå and Umeå that people mainly choose to fly to. From here it is close to the exotic midnight sun and mountain scenery, something that traditionally attracts tourists from all over Europe.
A majority (51%) stay away for just under a week, while as many as just over one in four tourists (28%) stay in Sweden for 7-13 days.
*The statistics show bookings made up to and including May 8, 2023 and refer to flights booked from June 1 to August 31 of this year. Online travel agency Travellink compiles statistics from 690 airlines.
