Chinese people have started traveling again this past weekend after the corona crisis previously forced everyone to stay home.
In connection with a holiday, the number of booked trips has increased by 50 percent from the previous weekend, according to the travel company Trip. The Wall Street Journal reports,
Hotel bookings were also 60 percent higher for the measurement period, while the number of train reservations doubled at Alibaba-owned travel service Fliggy.
”We are seeing signs of recovery for the domestic market,” said Trips CEO Jane Sun.
At the same time, it will likely be some time before travel reaches pre-coronavirus levels. There are still some obstacles. For example, several provinces still do not allow cross-border travel. In Beijing, residents were warned against traveling during the holiday, with the message that a 14-day quarantine awaited them in such cases.
Domestic flights have not yet fully recovered, with one-fifth of flights still being canceled due to weak demand, writes the WSJ.
