SAS made a loss of 2 billion SEK: "The pandemic is affecting it". Recovery towards more normal levels in 2022

SAS airline traffic figures continue to be weighed down by strict travel restrictions during February. The figures also deteriorated compared to January.

SAS flew 225,000 passengers during February, which represents a decrease of 20 percent compared to January and approximately 89 percent compared to the same month last year when the corona pandemic had not yet left its mark on travel.

SAS also continued to adapt capacity (ASK) to lower demand and compared to January, seat kilometers decreased by 16 percent, which is almost 81 percent lower than last year.

”"Travel restrictions continue to put pressure on demand, which prompted further adjustments to offered destinations and departures during February. Thanks to strong demand for cargo services, SAS continues to maintain parts of its intercontinental production, which however means that the overall cabin factor lands at a low 26 percent," notes SAS's outgoing CEO Rickard Gustafson.

At the same time, the cabin factor for SAS's Scandinavian and European operations has stabilized around 40 percent and also showed an increase of 4 percentage points in the month compared to January, SAS points out.
