We traveled more abroad last year compared to the year before, the latest travel barometer shows. However, the train has a difficult time when Swedes want to leave the country.

International travel continues to increase, although it is not yet back to pre-pandemic levels.

Despite an intense debate about the climate impact of flying, flying is still by far the most common means of transport when we travel abroad – just over half of trips with at least one overnight stay are made by air, according to the survey conducted by Resurs för resor og turism in collaboration with Europeiska ERV.

Train travel still remains at relatively low levels and is also decreasing slightly compared to the survey the previous year.

– Trains are still having a hard time, says Hans Remvig, travel and tourism analyst at Resurs for travel and tourism.

He believes that the main reason is that it is still quite "complicated" to book trains for those who want to travel outside Sweden's borders.
