For the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic, the state-owned airport group Swedavia is now making a profit. However, reduced domestic travel remains a challenge.
Just over 32 million passengers flew through Swedavia's ten airports in 2024. This contributed to turning a loss of SEK 318 million the previous year into an albeit modest profit of SEK 26 million.
At the same time, turnover for the full year rose by SEK 462 million to almost SEK 6.4 billion.
The break in trend is primarily linked to greater demand for international travel. While Swedavia has seen an increase in international travel, domestic travel continues to decline, last year by nine percent.
Last year, the airline BRA also announced that it was leaving Bromma Airport in favor of Arlanda, as it had initiated a cooperation agreement where flights would depart from Arlanda.
”"The fact that Stockholm's domestic flights are being concentrated at Arlanda will create the conditions for stronger domestic flights in the long term. In the short term, however, the announcement will bring significant challenges for Swedavia," Swedavia writes in its financial statements, referring, among other things, to the layoffs of 50 employees at Bromma.
