The heat will persist for a while longer and is unusually high for the time of year.

The cause is partly the tropical hurricane Oscar that formed off Bermuda.

During the week, large parts of southern Sweden will experience temperatures of up to ten degrees Celsius.

– This week we also have quite mild air for the time of year that is upon us and it is only towards the weekend that slightly cooler air starts to come in, says Henrik Reimers, meteorologist at SMHI.

In the northern parts of the country, the temperature can reach five or six degrees Celsius, which is also unusually warm for the time of year.

– There are usually a few occasional plus degrees in Götaland and southern Svealand, and then from Dalarna and north it is usually below zero and in the mountains up to ten degrees below zero. That is normal, says Henrik Reimers.

The cause of the heat is a high pressure with warmer air that has moved up from the south. But part of the explanation, especially in the north, is the tropical hurricane Oscar that formed over the Caribbean early last week.

The hurricane headed towards Scandinavia but weakened during its journey and when it moved over Norway and northern Sweden it was no longer a hurricane or even a storm.

– Remains of it have also drawn in a little milder air, says Henrik Reimers.
